We Don’t Install Solar Farms . . . We Install Solar FOR Farms

Oct 22, 2024Latest News0 comments

In recent news, there has been growing concern about large-scale solar farms taking over farmland, forests, and open spaces in Maine. While solar energy is undeniably important for our future, it’s equally important to protect our agricultural heritage. At SolarLogix, we have a different mission — supporting local farmers by bringing solar power directly to their operations, not taking away their land.

What is a REAP Grant?

The USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) offers financial assistance to small farms for renewable energy projects and energy efficiency upgrades. Through grants and loans, farms can fund initiatives like solar panels, wind energy systems, or improvements to reduce energy consumption. These efforts not only cut operational costs but also enhance environmental sustainability, helping farms become more resilient and eco-friendly. REAP is a key resource for small farms looking to invest in long-term energy solutions while contributing to rural economic development.

Our Projects for Local Farms

At SolarLogix, we’ve completed several REAP-supported projects for farms throughout Maine, helping them harness the power of the sun for their daily operations. Some of the local farms we’ve worked with include:

(Bahner Farm in Belmont, 32.5 kW system)

(Reid Farm in Thorndike, 28.8 kW system)

(IronWood Farm in Albion, 38.9kW system)

(Boyd Brook Farming in Frankfort, 25.92 kW system)

(Moorit Hill Farm in Troy, 40.95 kW system)

(Piper Mountain Christmas Trees in Newburgh, 26 kW system)

(Wescogus Wild Blueberry in Addison, 26 kW system)

These projects have enabled these farms to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels, lowering their energy bills and contributing to a greener Maine.

Our Why: Rooted in Farming

SolarLogix’s commitment to Maine’s agricultural community runs deep. Before founding SolarLogix, Josh Oxley and Rachele Leonard owned and operated Maine’s only (at the time) off-grid, MOFGA-certified organic vegetable farm. Their firsthand experience as farmers gave them a unique understanding of the challenges and rewards that come with running a farm in Maine. They know how important it is to lower costs, reduce environmental impact, and keep operations running smoothly — all while preserving the land for future generations.

Supporting Farmers Through the Grant Process

Navigating the REAP grant process can be overwhelming, but SolarLogix is here to help. We’ve worked with numerous Maine farmers and business owners to guide them through every step, from grant application to project installation. By making this process easier, we empower local farms to access the financial support they need to go solar.

At SolarLogix, we don’t just install solar. We install solar for farms, and we are committed to protecting our state’s agricultural heritage and natural resources. Our work is more than just business — it’s about preserving the way of life that makes Maine so special.
